About Gabriel
Gabriel has a BA in Law with French from the University of Kent, and two Master’s degrees (obtaining Distinction in each) - a “Maîtrise en Droit Commercial” from the University of Bordeaux and an LLM in International Commercial Law from City Law School, University of London. He has 30 years’ experience of practice at the Bar across a wide range of legal disputes, much of his work cutting across traditionally-defined disciplines. As well as the County Courts, First-Tier Tribunals and High Court, Gabriel has appeared in cases before the Court of Appeal, the UK Supreme Court and (in relation to Commonwealth cases) the Privy Council.
Gabriel’s work often has international aspects - with an emphasis on Africa, Asia-Pacific and the Caribbean. He combines intellectual rigour and attention to detail with a down-to-earth, common sense approach to litigation, and as a result is often praised by clients, solicitors and judges for his ability to think outside the box.
Gabriel has been listed in The Legal 500 as a “leading junior” for his civil fraud practice, noting his “strong track record in African and Caribbean related fraud cases.”, while The Lawyer magazine has referred to him as one of the “stars of the Junior Bar” for his real property work. While a fierce advocate in the courtroom, Gabriel is ever-conscious of the practical and commercial needs of his clients. He is frequently instructed to assist in mediations and other forms of alternative dispute resolution. In addition to advising and appearing as an advocate, Gabriel has been instructed as an expert on English Law and Procedure in a dispute between members of an overseas royal family, as Special Counsel by the indemnity insurer of well-known City-based solicitors investigating suspected fraud by a number of the partners, and as an Independent Legal Expert in assessing compensation claims against a major UK High Street bank.
Gabriel is fluent in French and has basic knowledge of Spanish.
Gabriel practises in three main areas: Real Estate / Property Law, Commercial and Insolvency Law and Trusts, Probate and Estates Law - as well as related Professional Negligence claims (particularly claims against solicitors).
